welcome to the NAC - The nature appreciation center |

For my design studio 4 this time round, we are assigned to design a Nature Appreciation Center within the area of the Malaysian Nature Society Environmental Interpretive Centre in Sepang, Selangor. Located approximately 75 minutes from Kuala Lumpur, the Environmental Interpretive Centre (EIC) is dominated by landscape of mangroves and rivers. It also acts as a sanctuary to many species of flora and fauna.
Throughout the weeks of design process, the main idea that I really wanted to express and appreciate is how
organic and edgeless the nature is. I wanted to create an architectural object which doesn't show much humanism. I took out the
six-direction-plus-center of human being design and dissolve all the architectural element such as the usual column, beam, ceiling into
one whole, where it eventually turn into an almost perfect sphere form and arranged in a way to show the beauty in nature could be combined with architecture to create a unique experience for the visitor.
Concept:
I come out with this
Eco-Pod design where all of the architectural element melts and form into one whole, and with all the little articulated fins which tilted at certain angle to provide a
full time sun shading into the internal area while still allows
full wind and light ventilation into the structure.

Furthermore, the little little eco pod pavilion structure glue together in a manner where it resembles the little pods of nature.

Elevation:
With the little little fins enclosure of the building, both north-south elevation has absolutely
no obstruction in viewing across the building, very open while on east-west elevation the building almost
blocking everything in his path in term of visual.
Plans:
The journey into the building are arranged in a way where you are welcomed by the outdoor open plaza nodes, into the NAC introductory gallery nodes which is almost totally enclosed first. Then towards the semi-open community lounge nodes, and end up at the very open observatory interactive learning nodes at the side of the water streams.

Below are all of the progress drawing that were produced for interim and tutorials, the semester starts with a precedent study, with a site visit to the place for the second half of the precedent study, and continued with several progress check in between towards the final presentation day.

I am the one responsible for the board compilation of the site analysis and the one who render both of the site plan above.. due to the lack of the content and real analysis I've tried my best to cover it up with putting a little bit more effort in the rendering and the board layout, but apparently the tutors pin point the weakness and lack of content of the site analysis and bring it up to everyone.
I really like how the way the tutor approach us and the emphasis of doing real design analysis. By far I would say I've learnt much more things and skills in design within this semester much more than the past few years of my life in architecture. The tutors are brilliant, sincere and are really top notch, if only I could have the same tutor for my next semester.... It's something that you could only wish for but are rarely available. Really are grateful and appreciate for all the effort from my tutor in his sincere effort in really teaching us how to design. Malaysia really needs more of these teaching to push the boundary of education further into the top-tier architecture learning...much thanks to my main tutor,
Ar. Alvin Lim Hai Seah for all of the attention care, efforts and critiques, you made my journey in Taylor so far a really valuable and unregrettable one.

I am glad that I've learnt so much in this semester in design thinking and so much about design.. though I am not super happy and proud for the proposal as I do not do my best for this semester.. I could've done so much more, but i do hope you guys enjoy it.
More update coming up soon, thanks for viewing. :)
