Design Studio 3 - Journey of 5 Senses

Finally has chance to be in a design studio course again like after a whole year of hiatus. (and of course hiatus for the blog too..)   :)

I am currently in Semester 3 of Bachelor of Architecture (hons) at Taylor right now, and this is one of the small tiny project which is done to study and create a space which are not solely after aesthetic but also to create an ultimate experience for the user to go through a journey of five senses.

Basically the students are divided and to be work in a group of five, and were given a chance to select a poem out of 8 and create a space which convey the poem most.

The following are the poem being selected :
A bed of Clouds by Ashley L. May

A Bed Of Clouds

© Ashley L. May
I sleep in the clouds, dream in the sky,
I'll keep dreaming as life passes me by,
I think my dreams keep me sane,
I dream of happiness, a life without pain,
some people say I'm stuck in this place,
and I'll never go anywhere,
but in my dreams I've already been there,
I know some day I'll have to wake up,
but I feel the real world is more like a nightmare,
I'm safe in my closed eye wonderland,
this poem goes to all the dreamers that understand,
no matter what they say...
keep your dreams but don't dream your life away.

Presentation material :
Board 1 of  3, Main perspective, poem, concept, main section.

Board 2 of 3, Site plan, summary of plan, circulation iso

Elevations and the "submerged" study model and perspective

all 3 boards all together

Concept:

The concept is very simple. What is suppose to be vertical aren't vertical anymore. You are currently within a space which is seemingly slanted and feels as though as an alternate dimension; the mixed up state between a dream and reality. It is to create an exciting walking adventure within the 10m x 10m structure to explore and see things in different perspective dynamically.

The main idea is when you're walking in a horizontal line, the feeling of it is as though you are walking up to another level higher. Let it be your dream or your goal, but you're progressing towards it, on a different way which is unreal yet engaging.

Column penetrating the roof, "going into the sky, into your dream."
The material on the bottom of the roof panel are to be fully installed with mirror, so the already confusing state of dimension are to be more enhanced with the ceiling and the overall feeling of "going into the sky" got further enhanced.

The ceiling are expected to reflect some of the sky too as it is slanted towards the open sky.

That total submerged and disconnected space.

Entrance perspective on a ground parallel view.

The submerged building

Experienced and learnt much throughout this project. It was really really fun. Hopefully there are more updates coming up soon and more interesting design will be presented here. Next time viewers :)

*going to visit penang for the final project of the semester from tomorrow to monday, will update about it if i feels so. :D

*as an extra information, the whole production duration of this project only takes 4 days. (from scratch to 3d modeling, all the rendering, photoshopping and study model.)

Arch Viz Aug 2013 Work In Progress (to be regularly updated)

Cover for this digital model :)
hola, This is the post where i will be updating all of the post progress for the project Boomerang House, which is my Sem 4 Design studio 2 final project during my Year One Diploma in Architecture.

Original post about the Boomerang House : http://coyweng.blogspot.com/2011/08/sem-4-of-diploma-in-architecture.html

So this is how it goes, one of the assignment for my Sem 3 Degree Architecture require us to construct a digital model out of any building, let it be your project or any other building, The moment I get my hand on the assignment brief, in no doubt I decided to complete the 3d model of my Boomerang House project which is something I always wanted to do. Its like YESS I could spend my time on constructing the model of the project I really like as an assignment for one of my subject, in the same time also upgrading my old portfolio, how nice. :)

As usual, image gallery and explaination ? :)

PROGRESS:

To be honest with you, I actually started tracing the floor plan since looooong looooong time ago in almost every semester break that I have, but simply could not have enough motivation to export it and complete the 3D model ... So yea so I basically recycle "a little" of my autocadd file for this assignment.
The Autocad file are being sorted out with layers to ease my selecting in 3dmax. Still trying to get myself familiar with 3dmax, hopefully in one day I could really master 3dmax in deep depth.
So I imported the Cad file into 3dmax and start extruding it. Creating 3d object out of the 1d Lines. Everything was done happily looking at the project going into the phase of being 3D.

And then I completed the Ground Floor 3d model.

And the basement.

And bind them all together....

....with stairs.

The Roof are interesting to construct and I am happy that the outcome are almost as the design intent of the original project :D Raise up the 3d, procutter it and erase the extra part for the vertical glasses panels. Rotated the louvre and the slanted boomerang roof.
Something which i thought kinda cool

So this is how my roof looks like in the 3dmax. In my aged laptop. and yea its ready to be finally attach to the whole 3d model, join in the boomerang crowd and raise the roof in the air. raise the roof in the air. in the air.

test render, experimenting with some settings,  mesmerising at the old sweet project being done in my earliest year of architecture.
meh.

Update 25/10/2013:
Two perspective had been produced for the second stage of the comp app submission, and the following are the perspectives and work in progress.

Work In Progress : BIRD EYE VIEW
Established basic model and camera for this perspective and this is what it is seen exported from the 3dmax, which are gonna be further enhanced in the photoshop.

The intermediate stage of the photoshop editing... around 50% progress (added in background, surrounding environment, texture for ground and roads, swapping the swimming pool to a blue one.)
The final Bird Eye View. (added in cloud reflection, trees reflection in glasses, added in people, refining edge like window frames, handrails, bumps on roof, fogs.)

Work in Progress : Eye Level View (poolside area)
Settled down with a camera angle and this is what exported outwards to be further refined in Lumion and Photoshop. Progress 5%
The initial setting for the perspective chosen for eye level view, and evening relaxing feeling.
Added in the environment and some other lighting adjustment.
To make the place sorta be more of an activity area, just sorta made the setting back to like a earlier time 4pm+ so that it makes more sense for people to be there and making it more happening.
The Final version of the Eye Level Perspective (poolside area)  (Added in people and reflectance on the glasses, a little bit refinement of the lighting and overall mood.)

Thats all for now, more perspective to come and I'm happy to see the boomerang house being developed little by little.. hopefully everything will be as planned :)

Update 23th November 2013:

Behold for incoming extreme exagerating interior perspective:

Work in progress : Interior Perspective (The Painting Room)

1.The naked interior perspective exported right from the 3dmax. Camera are set and the angle are rendered / exported to be further enhanced in photoshop.
2. The photo are tilted upright / added window frame and material for every surfaces seen on the 3dmodel.
3. The background of the interior perspective are finished up with pool reflection on below and kl skyline.
4. Perspective finished up with little details and objects objects added into the perspective.
Finished interior perspective - The Painting Room. (added some blur to make the rendering a little bit more realistic.)

Work in progress : Interior Perspective (The Bonding Area)

1. The naked 3d model rendered from 3dmax and to be further edit in photoshop next.

2. Added some basic furniture. The screenshot is about adjusting and experimenting with setting up some lighting and mood for the area.

3. The interior perspective which completed with all of the little details that i wanted to add in. to be finalized with a blurring on the photo.
Interior perspective - The Bonding Area of the boomerang house. (Added a blur effect)

To be updated soon! and it will be quite the last update for this project perhaps..

*Both of the interior perspective were completed within 6hours time in total. (3dmax export and photshop)

Work In Progress: Video Making

Setting up the background landscape..
Arranging the props, settings and mood..

The development of the Boomerang House (from mere sketch to the digital stage) are approaching towards an end along with the module, to be continued privately only if I am able to dig some extra momentum during my non-existence free time.

That's all I suppose... I hope you guys enjoy the whole process and product as much as I do. Thanks for visiting and have a pleasant stay :)
